Alaskan Malamute (medium coat) : : Male : : Young
Learn more about the Alaskan Malamute.
Nanook is a large, friendly, playful young male, full of energy and spirit. He is well mannered for his age and has certainly had some training, but will need more from his new family as he grows and learns what is expected from his human caretakers. He is very friendly towards people, but is not aware of his size or strength, so his enthusiasm can exert itself in a rough and tumble way. Nanook loved playing with a ball and kong toy, tossing it in the air himself to chase if it wasn't thrown fast enough to his liking, then prancing around as he chomped proudly on his catch. Simply put, Nanook is a fun, goofy and energetic puppy in a large malamute body. Although we did not come across any critters on our walk, he exhibited a strong sense of prey drive, showing intense curiosity to animal noises in the woods and was not sure what to make of the horses in the corral next door. We didn't find any cats brave enough to test his reactions with, but I would hesitate to suggest such an experiment to be a good idea. He showed great enthusiasm towards another female Mal that came along on his walk, but his excitement and exuberance, combined with his size when he approached made her nervous. He will need an introduction to any potential K9 siblings prior to placement in a new home. Nanook is all things a rambunctious young Mal should be, and will make a wonderful addition to a family looking for a true Mal. He would be best placed in a household without young children due to his size and energy, and would be well suited for an active family that will take him on hikes, walks and other outdoor Malamute adventures. Since meeting, Quicksilver and Nanook have taken quite a liking to each other and have asked us to mention that they would really like to go to a forever home together. They even promise not to get into too much trouble together! Nanook is being fostered in Maple Valley, WA. Nanook's companion, Quicksilver (adopted) can also be seen on our website.
