Interested in volunteering with WAMAL but don’t know how you can help?

Well here is a great description of all the ways you can jump in and get involved!!

Dog Walking and Socialization

We need volunteers to help socialize and walk our kenneled Mals at the boarding kennels in Puyallup, Burlington and Spokane. We have a group of folks that take turns visiting with the pups at the kennels to keep them socialized as well as groomed and exercised. Working with the dogs at the kennels requires participation in a mentoring/training program first as there are some solid guidelines we’ve developed through experience. Check out our YouTube video to get an idea of all the fun you can have visiting the pups!

Evaluations and Transport

Do you have experience with Malamutes, Huskies, other northern breeds or large breed dogs? We need volunteers to check out or evaluate dogs in shelters, transport dogs to their new adoptive homes, and take them to the vet for shots, neuters/spay or general checkups. In addition, we do home visits with potential adopters to make sure the home environment is safe and secure and to answer questions.

Fostering

Fostering a Malamute is a priceless and precious experience. You welcome the Mal into your home and help with the transition into their new forever adoptive home. Fostering could for as little as a couple of days to a few months. We also need foster homes for hospice care. To be a foster requires: a securely fenced yard; no cats or small dogs; a way to safely and securely separate your foster pup from your current dog(s) if needed; time to exercise and interact with your foster pup; and, provide us feedback so we can get the knowledge we need to help find that furever match! We cover all necessary veterinary costs, if needed, and provide behavior and training support.

Fundraising and Promotion

Want to help raise awareness, provide education or attend fundraising events? We need people to represent WAMAL at various adoption events, community events and festivals, and at special fundraising opportunities. Your job is breed education and to answer questions about adoptions, fostering, sponsoring and volunteering. Have a Mal that is good with lots of attention and crowds? Join our Ambassadog team! These pups allow the public the ‘hands on” breed experience. These Ambassadogs are people magnets at events!!
