Pooka just celebrated her first birthday. She is a beautiful, graceful malamute who came into rescue with her mom Alyeska because their owners moved and were unable to take them along.

Pooka is shy but inquisitive when meeting new people. She has never encountered a child. She has lived exclusively outdoors, sharing a kennel run with her protective mom. She is house naive, car naive, toy naive, leash naive... this girl simply has not been exposed to anything! But she is NOT a wildly out of control youngster either! Her mom has done a great job training her to be a sweet girl. Now she needs a forever family to teach her all the other stuff about being a malamute.

Pooka loves to run and play with her mom and with the other young male mals we have introduced her to. Now that she has been introduced to toys a bit, we have noticed that she does not like to share them. She is a bit aggressive about her food when kenneled near other dogs, but is not so in other situations.

Pooka can be adopted with her mom Alyeska, but we do not recommend this. She is at the age where she will start challenging her mom in the nasty ways that female malamutes do. She would be better matched with another young, playful male of her size.

Pooka is currently being kenneled in Maple Valley, WA.
