Kodiak is a sweet gentle 1-year old Malamute/German Shepherd mix. Kodiak along with his litter-mate ended up at a shelter through a confiscation rescue by police. He spent several months in a kennel but once he came to WAMAL has been in foster care. He has blossomed into a fun playful pup who interacts readily and appropriately with the other pups looking to them for guidance. He loves to play for hours with a willing partner but will then settle readily. Kodiak is house trained and even rings a bell by the door so he can be let out or goes in and out on his own if given the chance! Kodiak is reserved around new people and will slowly approach but becomes comfortable quickly if you are calm and patient. Kodiak walks on a leash but is afraid of loud cars and trucks and will benefit from regular exposure and desensitization to these distracting sounds. He has not been trained yet to commands but is very smart and curious. He is alert and likes to explore his world. Kodiak likes his toys and gently mouths them. He is comfortable around calm children but is untested with cats. He is fine with dogs his size or slightly smaller and may be okay with small dogs if properly introduced. Kodiak is very gentle and sweet and wants nothing more out of life than a good puppy friend a loving home and to be a part of the pack. Kodiak is being lovingly cared for in Washington while he awaits his new forever home. Kodiak's companion, Yukon (adopted) can also be seen on our website.
