BEAR was an owner surrender to WAMAL in October 2019. His former owner just felt Bear was too much to handle. Adopted to an experienced northern breed home, this new owner worked hard to incorporate Bear into his family and pack, but Bear proved to need a different environment and wanted to be the only pup in the home. Bear then entered into a perfect foster home where he was allowed to just be Bear and to snuggle on the sofa and hang out in the back yard chilling with his foster, who was working from home during Covid. It was during that time that a mass was discovered at the top of one of Bear’s legs and he was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. The cancer was limited to the tumor and was non-aggressive. The vet recommended that, since surgical removal of the cancer was not possible because of its infiltration with the surrounding tissue, that once the tumor grew large enough to cause pain and impair movement, that Bear’s leg be amputated. Unfortunately, due to personal and travel demands, Bear’s foster had to surrender him back to us. In January 2022, at 11 years old, Bear became a Super Senior tripaw after his leg was amputated---the tumor had grown significantly and was affecting Bear’s quality of life. He has been in several foster homes for recovery and is looking for a furever home where he can just hang out with his people, get loves and live out the remainder of his life in well-deserved comfort.
