REMUS, on the euthanasia list at a high kill shelter in California, came into WAMAL with fly bites to his ears, the back of his legs, and holes on his neck from the tight prong collar he was wearing when first found. Remus went to our partner kennel in Spokane over Thanksgiving 2021. This good boy, estimated to be 8 years old, was described as very friendly and was a shelter favorite before joining WAMAL. He took treats gently and loved to be out and about exploring. Exhibiting stiffness in his gait, he was taken to the vet who diagnosed spinal inflammation. Remus was put on medication and strict exercise restriction. In April of 2022, he was brought to Malley Valley where volunteers spent multiple hours brushing and combing Remus. They were able to remove all his mats and a ton of hair. He was very patient and did well. He appears to have arthritis and joint issues--his front legs at the ankle are swollen and his back legs are unable to extend or to hold him up for very long. As he was being dried after his bath, an extremely concerning tumor on his testicular area was noticed. Remus went in for removal surgery in late June 2022. The tumor was benign. Remus is described as sweet, aloof, and very gentle, and he may have some visual issues. This dear older pup deserves to have a quiet place to call home where he can kick back and live out his later years. He loves attention and has a very mellow disposition.
