What do sunsets and JUNEAU have in common? They both get better and better every time! Juneau is a big senior gal, estimated to be around 10 years old. Juneau has had a rough life, used as a breeding dog then given away. Our evaluator found her with several medical issues—a likely eye infection in both eyes as they were practically sealed shut, hearing issues as she did not respond to any sound stimulus, and a mass on her lower abdomen. Due to horrible matting, most of her coat had been shaved off. Juneau was in a home with several older adults and 6 other dogs and other small animals. The evaluator remarked that “Juneau appeared very stressed” and recommended that she be moved into a foster home immediately. “This Mal was very, very sweet to me but it was obvious that this was all too overwhelming for her as the small dogs jumped on her and run around her and she tripped over them. When I paid attention to Juneau and touched her, she loved it. She would lean and tilt her head into the pets and was very sweet, very chill, easy going and loveable. She is gorgeous, gentle, and looking for all the love and attention a furever home can provide her!” Once with WAMAL beginning February 2022, Juneau was taken to the vet for treatment of her eye infection, received an overall check-up with blood panel, and had surgery to remove the abdominal mass, which luckily turned out to be benign. She is making huge strides in her foster home, settling in comfortably. Initially preferring to be outside, she now exclusively prefers the indoors and goes out whenever she pleases but always returns inside. Juneau is great with other dogs and children. She picks up on training quickly but definitely decides on her own time whether or not to listen. Juneau is sweet and loves to cuddle. Now that she has been introduced to the 'cushy life' she is basking in it and this Special Senior really would love a home of her own!
