Meet Neeko and Koko, a bonded pair! Neeko is a 5-year-old male and Koko is a 3-year-old female. WAMAL was contacted after the owner passed away suddenly and these pups were left homeless. It is evident that this pair was very well loved and a great companion for their 81-year-old Mom. Everyone describes them as SWEET and GENTLE. They are about as laid back as they come. Neeko is a big boy at over 150 pounds with the petite Koko weighing in at 65. Both are currently overweight and in need of regular exercise.
These 2 are definitely bonded. In some photos you can see a sore on the bridge of Neeko’s nose. One of the volunteers at their first shelter noticed “an abrasion, it was reddish, and I asked the volunteer about it. She stated that when they first arrived they were placed in separate cages and that Neeko tried to break through to be near Koko who was in the next cage near him. Observing the dogs, when Koko yelped Neeko tried to get near her to make sure she was ok. During transport I would see Neeko move and Koko would follow, she was leaning into him the whole trip.”
Both pups are housebroken and slept inside but a door was left open so they could go out to the yard whenever they wanted. Neeko loves car rides and to poke his head out of the sunroof. When he was driven into town he would poke his head out and people outside restaurants would come over and give him treats. Neeko and Koko like their walks, to run at the beach and play in the water and to play in their yard. Both will go into the shower with coaxing for baths.
This is truly a lovely pair of Malamutes. We would like to get them out of the kennel and into a foster or (paws crossed) new furever home! They are currently sharing the same roomy kennel and getting lots of attention from our volunteers who can’t get over how mellow they are!!
