Learn more about the Alaskan Malamute.
Nakia is a lover. He gets along great with older children and all dogs, and only seems mildly interested in cats, but he will walk away if they arch and hiss. He wants to be near his humans, snuggling on the bed, walking in the park, or just sitting together, but he can also amuse himself if left alone. He came to us because his former owners did not have an enclosed yard and he was stalking the neighbors chickens and goats. With this in mind, he should always be supervised around small animals. Nakia has no food or toy aggression at all, and loves to fetch, of all things! His favorite toys are a squeaky ball and a long stick. He will keep going after them as long as someone is willing to keep throwing them. He does not dig or challenge fences, is very easy to walk on a leash, seems to be housetrained, and is not a very noisy or destructive dog. He does not particularly like to be kenneled. We are working with him on his manners. He knows sit, come, no, and do not put your feet on me, but he has so much energy sometimes it takes a minute to get him to settle down. Nakia has a very loyal, happy-go-lucky attitude. Everyone who has worked with him comments about what a sweetheart he is! Nakia is currently fostered in Maple Valley, WA. |
