Balto is a calm dog but can still be puppyish. He is willing to please, and gets along well with most other dogs. He is a beautiful light reddish color, almost golden. He may be a mix but he is mostly malamute, however you look at him - size, temperament, eyes, tail etc.

As we learn more about Balto we will update his description.

Balto is currently being cared for in Tri-Cities. If you would like to meet Balto, please submit an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Update from Balto's foster home:
Balto is doing well, he is still quite the puppy! He is learning some manners, still tries to jump up on you but we are working on that one with consistency, knows how to sit, and knows his name and will come when you call him. Balto is smart, he wants to please and do the right thing, he just does not always know what that is! He is getting better at taking treats nicely, but still needs a little work. No food aggression between him and the other 2, he will give up without too much argument. On leash Balto walks as well as can be expected of a young Mal, he pulls a bit and tries to sniff EVERYTHING he can. He has not challenged the fence, even the 3 foot 6 inch section, nor has he tried to get out the gate when entering/exiting the dog yard. He is not a digger, except maybe to bury a rawhide, but if someone else (namely Scout) is digging he will join the fun. With the cats, I have not had a chance to give him a fair and true test, he follows Aly's lead and will go after the cats if they get close enough. So at this point, I would have to say no cats or small dogs. Balto is fine with other large dogs close to his size or larger, he will bark a bit at intro and then is fine as long as the others are. He likes to howl with sirens, and he and Aly get a good chorus going!

Foster mom update:
He is a well-mannered young dog. A little excitable at times, but he is still a puppy. Balto would make a good watch dog, he does bark at times (when someone new is here, or when he gets excited and wants to play with us or the other dogs) but not excessive by ANY means. He does quiet down when you tell him to. Balto is a smart one, and he has learned some manners and tries his very best but sometimes forgets. He is calm for his age, and is content to lay or sit at your feet and get pets.
