Ranger is a skeptic, he does not automatically trust people that he meets and is reserved and a bit wary until you have proven you are going to be good for him. Then he turns into a charmer and a delightful, playful companion. That apparently takes about a week of steady meals, pets, mutual respect, a nice place to live and a few treats. His entrance into rescue was rocky - he was one peeved dog. His foster mom (who is short, in her 50's and not an athlete) was concerned when she took him but he has done a 180 in her home just within a couple of weeks. He loves to play with mom, is interested in everything going on around him, walks VERY well on leash, knows a few commands (sit and shake), goes to his kennel at feeding time, and curiously examines the house when let inside and quietly sits outside the kitchen door. A gate was left open accidentally and he was suddenly in the backyard with 2 other dogs and they were all just fine. However, patience and mutual respect are the byword with Ranger. We are still exploring boundaries and teaching Ranger that we get to set the boundaries. And that it is safe for him to let us do that. Rangers home will be a quiet low key home with only a few people. Ranger was previously known as FOUND, as he was found dehydrated in the woods. He is being cared for in Cle Elum, WA. |
