Summer is one of the most non-confrontational dogs around. She was introduced almost immediately (by accident) to a full pack of 7 dogs and did great with all of them. She is very hesitant but not skittish - she just asks if everything is ok before she does it. She loves to go for walks and has a beautiful gait. She is doing very well in the house and learns quickly. She has apparently never been on slick floors before and gingerly walks from throw rug to throw rug. She does not challenge fences, does not go after the worlds dumbest cat. She has the softest fur of all the dogs here. And the bounciest gait! She seems to be most comfortable being outdoors and she gets so excited and happy when people join her outside!! But she is pretty sad when no one is with her so we are expanding her horizons by bringing her inside every day with the other dogs. Summer was found in a National Park, deep in the woods, tied to a tree. Either left to die or maybe waiting for someone to come back and shoot her. She has several contusions but good blood work except for a low thyroid. She loves taking her thyroid pills since they come in a treat! Late in life, she is learning that love can come her way. Summer is being cared for in Cle Elum, WA. If you are interested in meeting Summer, please submit an application and we will get your home visit scheduled ASAP! From Summer's Foster Mom: Many thanks to those of you who contributed so generously to assist with pain medications for a comfortable summer for Summer. Her body may be failing but her outlook on life grows younger every day. Summer did not expect kindness, pets or play when she came. She does now! Because of her arthritis and other little quirks, Summer is not a dog who will ever be a normal companion dog. She is not quite housebroken, does not trust wood or pergo floors and becomes distressed when indoors too long. She can go down stairs but not up them and won't even come onto a flat wooden deck. And, most of all, another upheaval in her life at this late date could really hurt that wonderful outlook that is just now emerging. So she can stick around at Sandy's Doggie Playyard. |
