Learn more about the Alaskan Malamute.
This young girl is adorable. She will run right up to you at full speed and flop over on her back all in one motion just to get a belly rub. Not the largest of Malamutes but still fairly tall. She weighs in at about 80 pounds and likely will add a few more over the next several months. She is short some hair due to a recent pregnancy and improper diet but her coat is starting to come back in and she will look outstanding when it does. She is very good with food showing no protection issues and takes treats gently even from my 5 year old son. She understands sit, down and no sometimes but only uses her understanding when it suits her. She does well in the kennel when she has to be kenneled however she generally has the run of the yard and has been good when left out all day. Sapling trees should be wary of her though. This loving girl is house trained and routinely stays in for 8 to 9 hours at a time and has over more than a month never had an accident inside the house. She gets along great with kids but can be a bit pushy for attention so little kids will need supervision around her. She walks well on a leash with an adult and my 10 year old daughter. She generally ignores other dogs she meets while on a walk. She also does a good job of ignoring the neighbors dogs. She is generally very quite, seldom talks and almost never barks. She gets along well with male dogs that are her size. For over a week she was housed with/around a 12 year old Siberian male who was comparable to her height although a little lighter and she was quite respectful of the old guy. One note to this is that this was about the only time that she barked or talked excessively and it was always during feeding time and they were always fed separately. She has never really challenged the fence here although with enough motivation she might, she is interested in squirrels and cats and has managed to tree several squirrels but as of now has not quite been fast enough to catch one. She would really like an active home with kids. Miyah is being cared for in Richland, WA |
