Welcome to WAMAL Washington Alaskan Malamute Adoption League (WAMAL) was formed in 1998 by Cindy Neely to help with Malamute Rescue in Washington State and since then has expanded into Oregon. WAMAL rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes Malamutes (or Mal-enough-a-mutes!) who, through no fault of their own, find themselves without a home or in need of a new home. Serving the greater Northwest we are also part of a national rescue network, AMAL, that covers other areas of the US. WAMAL provides hope to families that must rehome their malamutes when life has taken a sharp detour; training support to those families desperately working to keep their 4-legged family members; works with shelters and takes into rescue strays and those pups needing an extra level of thoroughness in the adoption process; and, actively recruits adopters and foster homes. We are a 100% volunteer run, 501c.3 non-profit organization that is celebrating over 20 years! Our volunteers come from all walks of life and locations and WAMAL is only able to do what we do because of this generous and dedicated team of volunteers. They truly make it possible to save the lives of this gentle, stubborn, and loving working breed. WAMAL has rescued many hundreds of malamutes to date and each holds a place in our hearts. SUMMIT has a typical malamute personality. Independent, smart, playful, and affectionate, but only when he wants to be. He is crate trained, however, if he's left in the crate, for what he considers is too long, he will find a way out.
A large fenced yard for him to run zoomies and burn energy would be ideal. He enjoys long daily walks where he can explore. He also loves car rides. If he could go on a car ride to a place to walk, he would love the adventure. After the walk, he loves to cuddle and relax with his humans.
SUMMIT gets very excited at seeing other dogs as he wants to play, but not all dogs appreciate his enthusiasm. It may be best that he is in an only dog family.
SUMMIT's furever family should have the time to spend with him, take him on many adventures, and give him lots of pets and attention.

HADES is watching or his new family to come pick him up? Can you open your heart and home to him?
HADES is a sweet and gentle boy who thrives on attention from his humans. Don't let his looks fool you, he may look more like a cattle dog, but he has the personality of a Malamute!
Recently HADES lived in an apartment, but he prefers the quiet country life and is not used to the loud city experiences. He is Ok with several short walks each day, but a nice scenic walk or hike makes him very happy. A car ride with the windows cracked is always a great way to start an adventure.
HADES knows many commands. Basic commands like "sit", "down" and "stay". Loving commands "hug", "kiss" and "cuddle" and fun commands like "dance" and "go through" where he will run through your legs like a tunnel. He has a large vocabulary that you will enjoy playing w...read more about HADES

KODIAK is a real love bug, he likes people and lots of attention. He is super smart, loves to play and wants to be where the action is.

KODIAK is ready for his fureve home and all the adventures his new world offers him.
MAGGIE loves people and craves attention! She needs to be an only fur baby and queen of her home. She has attitude and does not get along with other dogs. If she is outside she will need a good fenced yard to relax in. She enjoys being indoors with her human pack where she can be pet all over and is a licker and likes to gently nibble on fingers while being pet.
MAGGIE likes to walk several times a day checking out the neighborhood. But should not be taken to dog parks. She is good in the car once she gets a boost in, so will be happy to join you on all of your adventures! She has done well with older kids, though does like to put her paws up on people, which is why it is best that she is not with small children.
The best way to describe MAGGIE is a cat personality in a big dog body, rather aloof and
independently minded. She likes to be “around, but not there.” She i...read more about MAGGIE
Kit has been coming out of her shell more and more, and absolutely LOVES to play!
We can hardly go anywhere in the enclosure without Kit being underfoot. If we sit down with anything sticking out of our pockets; cell phone, wallet, work gloves, you name it, if she thinks she can possibly steal it, she’ll try her darnedest to do exactly that. Not because she needs (or even really wants) the item she’s trying to steal. No, it’s because she gets an absolute thrill out of the ensuing chase to retrieve whatever she’s pilfered.
Despite all the challenges she’s been through in her short life, Kit strives only to be the life of the party, and spreads her exuberance to the rest of the pack on a daily basis as if it’s her vocation.
Kit will need an energetic owner with a solid sense of humor who can keep up with antics. She is loaded with personality and has earned the nickname "Squirrel Girl" because she's always ...read more about KIT BELLEW
Pup of the week award goes to Yukon, who has REALLY been making leaps and bounds in his socialization journey these last few days!
He’s become a completely different dog from the shy, laid-back loner he was when he first arrived, and is now coming into his own as a playful, outgoing goofball with a dignified air about him that comes across as nearly regal.
Yukon has shown us that he’s no longer Mr. Shy Guy.
Yukon has not only found his confidence - he’s also found his voice! And it’s a LOUD one indeed! We’re incredibly proud of our boy nevertheless.
We have just received YUKON and not had a chance to fully evaluate him yet. Stay tuned for an update.

Bear is a [3]-year-old [Alaskan malamute] with a friendly, loving personality. Bear is well
trained. She knows how to sit, speak, lay down, and plays dead when you say bang
bang.
She is [house-trained/crate-trained], up-to-date on
vaccinations, and she is not spayed yet. But is scheduled to be altered in June. Bear loves going on walks and cuddling and would
thrive in a home with a fenced yard.

Please meet the incredible Yellow! This sweet, calm, loving, very special boy is looking for his forever home. He was being given away for free as his owners had no time for him, and he was facing euthanasia quickly if he didn’t find placement. Luckily, a good samaritan was able to find an incredible urgent foster home where he is safe and currently getting settled in.
He is almost 3 years old, around 90 pounds, vaccinated, neutered and we think he’s malamute mix given his size and temperament. He adores children! He absolutely should not be around chickens, and we are giving him some time to settle in until we cat and dog test him. We feel that he’d likely love a dog playmate or two, but cats may be a bit too much to ask with how fun they can be to chase.
He’s located in Olympia, WA and would love to meet his new forever family!
If you would like to learn more about YELLOW please call...read more about YELLOW
Sage is our big sweetheart girl who loves playing in her water. She’s the biggest of the 3 pups and plays hard with her brothers. She likes to have her own time to relax and take a break when needed after a round of zoomies in the backyard and wrestling with her brothers. She uses her big girl voice when she plays and rolls on her back when she naps. With her cute little curls by her ears, Sage is a cuddlebug and just melts your heart when she looks at you.
We are in process of training her with basic commands and house training. Her weight is as of June 1st and she will be growing a few pounds a week.
RIVER is a sweet spitfire of a girl who loves playing in the water and running around in the big yard with her two brothers. She’s the smaller of the two girls in the litter but don’t let that fool you, she’s super smart, and loves a fun adventure outside .
RIVER is in process of learning basic commands and house training. Her weight is as of May 22nd and she is growing a few pounds a week.
Hawk, or Hawky Boy, as we call him, is the tiny but mighty of the pups. He was the first to get up on the couch by himself and is the most rambunctious of the bunch. Hawk has a spunky personality and will play stomp and share love growls with his humans when he wants to play. He’s gentle with his puppy nibbles and share a puppy bark to get the whole crew howling. Hawk is the leader of the puppy pack and everyone just loves him!
Hawk is in process of being trained with basic commands and potty training. His weight is as of June 1st he will grow a few pounds a week and we will update periodically.
Goose is a sweet chubby bear. He is sweet, and loves to watch and observe. He loves to be by people, sit by you, stare at you, lay by you. Although he loves his siblings, humans are his favorite. Goose is such a sweet soul and steals hearts along the way. He’s very calm and loves a good nap.
Goose is in process of being potty trained and learning basic commands. His weight is as of May 22nd and he is growing a few pounds a week.
Badger is our big boy and gentle giant. He’s a bit reserved and a little shy but when his siblings are close or another dog friend, he comes out of his shell. He loves puppy treats, frolicking in the yard, and belly rubs. He does well keeping up with little brother, Hawk who’s helped him to learn to be brave, but will just as easily chill on his back for a good snooze. Badger always has a smile on his sweet freckled face.
Badger is in process of being potty trained and learning basic commands. His weight is as of June 1st and hes growing a few pounds a week.
