Welcome to WAMAL Washington Alaskan Malamute Adoption League (WAMAL) was formed in 1998 by Cindy Neely to help with Malamute Rescue in Washington State and since then has expanded into Oregon. WAMAL rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes Malamutes (or Mal-enough-a-mutes!) who, through no fault of their own, find themselves without a home or in need of a new home. Serving the greater Northwest we are also part of a national rescue network, AMAL, that covers other areas of the US. WAMAL provides hope to families that must rehome their malamutes when life has taken a sharp detour; training support to those families desperately working to keep their 4-legged family members; works with shelters and takes into rescue strays and those pups needing an extra level of thoroughness in the adoption process; and, actively recruits adopters and foster homes. We are a 100% volunteer run, 501c.3 non-profit organization that is celebrating over 20 years! Our volunteers come from all walks of life and locations and WAMAL is only able to do what we do because of this generous and dedicated team of volunteers. They truly make it possible to save the lives of this gentle, stubborn, and loving working breed. WAMAL has rescued many hundreds of malamutes to date and each holds a place in our hearts. SUMMIT has a typical malamute personality. Independent, smart, playful, and affectionate, but only when he wants to be. He is crate trained, however, if he's left in the crate, for what he considers is too long, he will find a way out.
A large fenced yard for him to run zoomies and burn energy would be ideal. He enjoys long daily walks where he can explore. He also loves car rides. If he could go on a car ride to a place to walk, he would love the adventure. After the walk, he loves to cuddle and relax with his humans.
SUMMIT gets very excited at seeing other dogs as he wants to play, but not all dogs appreciate his enthusiasm. It may be best that he is in an only dog family.
SUMMIT's furever family should have the time to spend with him, take him on many adventures, and give him lots of pets and attention.
Important - Please note.

HADES is watching or his new family to come pick him up? Can you open your heart and home to him?
HADES is a sweet and gentle boy who thrives on attention from his humans. Don't let his looks fool you, he may look more like a cattle dog, but he has the personality of a Malamute!
Recently HADES lived in an apartment, but he prefers the quiet country life and is not used to the loud city experiences. He is Ok with several short walks each day, but a nice scenic walk or hike makes him very happy. A car ride with the windows cracked is always a great way to start an adventure.
HADES knows many commands. Basic commands like "sit", "down" and "stay". Loving commands "hug", "kiss" and "cuddle" and fun commands like "dance" and "go through" where he will run through your legs like a tunnel. He has a large vocabulary that you will enjoy playing w...read more about HADES
BLITZ is a goofy and lovable purebred Alaskan Malamute looking for a new home that can give him lots of love and attention.
BLITZ loves car rides, long walks and swimming. If he could have a car ride that takes him swimming followed by a long walk he would be in heaven! At home he enjoys chilling out in a large fenced yard and being with his people.
He is a smart boy willing to learn and already knows many commands like "sit", "lay down", "stay", "go" and "back up". His future home will need a secured fence yard because he has been known to jump or climb over to go find his people.
BLITZ gets along with other dogs and will enjoy some play time with them. However, he is happy to see them go home, so he can relax in his own quiet space. He is also OK with older considerate children.
Unfortunately, BLITZ has a little anxiety possible skin allergies which has caused him to chew his ...read more about BLITZ
MARVIN was recently transported from a shelter to one of our fosters where he recovered from a broken leg and is learning what a caring home feels like. While at the foster he will be taught to potty outside, how to walk on a leash, basic commands, and socialized with other animals and humans.
MARVIN is bouncy, energetic, happy, and sweet. He has loved every dog and person he has met, takes new experiences in stride (like swimming, going on his first hike, experiencing his first snow, getting bathed, visiting the pet store)
Fortunately, MARVIN's
broken leg is fully healed, but he doesn't walk quite right and falls over if he runs too fast. He will likely be a wobbly guy even when he's grown up. He may not move his hind end "perfectly" but he doesn't let it stop him! He still loves to run, jump, wrestle with other dogs, and chase toys. He's even learning how to swim!
MARVIN is almost potty trai...read more about MARVIN
