Welcome to WAMAL Washington Alaskan Malamute Adoption League (WAMAL) was formed in 1998 by Cindy Neely to help with Malamute Rescue in Washington State and since then has expanded into Oregon. WAMAL rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes Malamutes (or Mal-enough-a-mutes!) who, through no fault of their own, find themselves without a home or in need of a new home. Serving the greater Northwest we are also part of a national rescue network, AMAL, that covers other areas of the US. WAMAL provides hope to families that must rehome their malamutes when life has taken a sharp detour; training support to those families desperately working to keep their 4-legged family members; works with shelters and takes into rescue strays and those pups needing an extra level of thoroughness in the adoption process; and, actively recruits adopters and foster homes. We are a 100% volunteer run, 501c.3 non-profit organization that is celebrating over 20 years! Our volunteers come from all walks of life and locations and WAMAL is only able to do what we do because of this generous and dedicated team of volunteers. They truly make it possible to save the lives of this gentle, stubborn, and loving working breed. WAMAL has rescued many hundreds of malamutes to date and each holds a place in our hearts. Meet JAK, a one‑year‑old powerhouse of enthusiasm with a sweet heart and a whole lot of puppy spirit packed into a strong, athletic body. He’s the kind of dog who thrives on fresh air, open space, and adventure—he genuinely prefers spending his days outside exploring, playing, and soaking up the world around him.
Because he’s been an outdoor‑loving guy, Jak’s coat could use a good grooming session, and his skin shows signs of past irritation that are already improving with care. With a little TLC, he’s going to look and feel fantastic.
Jak is incredibly friendly and loves people, but he’s still very much a student of life. He’ll need a home ready to invest in consistent training, structure, and plenty of exercise. He’s smart, eager, and already knows sit and shake, and he’s working hard on stay. He walks on a leash, rides well in the car, loves toys, enjoys fetch, and has a playful, even‑tempered personality. He’...read more about JAK
Meet Grizzly, a bundle of joy wrapped in fur, enthusiasm, and pure love for people. He’s got the heart of a puppy and the presence of a gentle giant. If you’re looking for a dog who greets the world like it’s full of friends he hasn’t met yet, Grizzly is your guy.
Grizzly is wonderfully social—he adores people and gets along well with most dogs. When he’s excited, he can forget his size and bounce up to say hello, but with a bit of training and consistency, he settles quickly. Underneath all that energy is a big, affectionate sweetheart who just wants to be part of the fun.
He’s also a bit of a goofball. When boredom strikes, Grizzly has been known to indulge in some “creative chewing”—cardboard, paper, and yes, even the occasional ottoman. Crates aren’t his thing, but when he’s had enough exercise and mental stimulation, he’s far less likely to get into mischief. Give him a good walk, some playtime, an...read more about GRIZZLY
Meet Lilo — A Spirited, Sweet Alaskan Malamute Mix Ready for Her Forever Family
Lilo is the kind of puppy who steals hearts without even trying. This adorable little girl may be a mixed breed, but she proudly sports the classic Malamute mask, big fluffy paws, and that bold, joyful personality Malamutes are known for.
Lilo and her littermates were found in Eastern Washington before being brought into loving foster homes, where they’ve been learning what it means to be safe, cared for, and part of a family. Although someone docked their tails before rescue, these pups haven’t let that dim their spirits. Lilo is healthy, happy, and bursting with energy.
This girl is active. She loves her toys, loves to play, and absolutely loves being the center of attention. If you’re looking for a puppy with personality, she’s your girl.
Lilo has already made great progress in her foster home:
Fully crate trained
Mostly housebroken
Working on leash manner...read more about LILO
This is SUNSHINE, a cute female Alaskan Malamute who is eagerly looking for her furever home. She may be a mixed breed, but has the malamute mask, brown eyes and big paws. She was orginally named "Echo" but her sunny personality inspired the foster to rename her "Sunshine". She is playful and always happy. Also called Sunny, she enjoys being around other dogs and is learning to ride in cars.
Sunshine and her litter mates were recently found in Eastern Washington. They were rescued and brought into foster homes where they are beginning their puppy training. Unfortuantely, someone docked their tails but otherwise they are healthy, happy and full of energy. She will have all her vaccinations, is already altered and ready for a new home soon.
This is TILLY, a cute female Alaskan Malamute who is eagerly looking for her furever home. She may be a mixed breed, but has the malamute mask, brown eyes and big paws.
Tilly is the leader of their little pack. Loves to run, climb play, but can be short tempered. Easy to train and funny like her sister. Loves to give snuggles and kisses but quickly runs off to play. Loves to jump and play chase. Likes to be close to you when you sit. Very sweet.
She is leash trained but only if you go where she wants to go. Knows to sit and wait for treats versus grabbing for them. She is c
rate trained and on her way to being potty trained. She has very few accidents anymore and will try to let you know when she needs to go out

Meet PISTOL, a handsome and adorable Alaskan Malamute boy looking for his furever home.
He may be a mixed breed, but has the Malamute mask, big paws and big personality.
Pistol is so smart, loves to learn, and very easy to train. Loves to run and play but always comes back to sit with his foster mum. Watches everything going on around him. A real sweetheart. He will come to whomever takes him but it will take a while for him to trust them. He relies on Tilly a lot for security.

Meet SHASTA, a beautiful Malamute mix with a bright spirit and an adventurous heart. She’s an active, outdoors‑loving girl who thrives on long walks, hikes, and any chance to explore the world with her people. If you’re someone who loves fresh air, movement, and a loyal companion by your side, she’ll fit right in.
Shasta gets along wonderfully with other dogs and she’s been exposed to a wide variety of animals. She does well with cats, chickens, ducks, pigs, and even a goose. The only animals she struggles with are rabbits, so a rabbit‑free home is important.
She’s crate trained, walks nicely on leash, and knows a great set of commands, including: Sit, Wait, Load up, Okay (her release word), Leave it, Cross (she waits for permission to cross the road), Paw, High Five and Get it.
Her recall still needs work, so she should remain on leash during outdoor adventures for now. With consistency a...read more about SHASTA
Kit has been blossoming more and more each day, and one thing is crystal clear—this girl LOVES to play. The moment you step into her enclosure, she’s right there underfoot, ready to turn anything into a game. Sit down for even a second with something sticking out of your pocket—cell phone, wallet, gloves, literally anything—and Kit will give it her best shot to “borrow” it. Not because she wants the item… but because she lives for the chase that follows. For Kit, mischief is just another form of joy.
Despite everything she’s endured in her young life, Kit radiates pure enthusiasm. She’s the self‑appointed life of the party, spreading her goofy, infectious energy to the rest of the pack like it’s her full‑time job. Watching her bounce around with that spark in her eyes is enough to brighten anyone’s day.
Kit will thrive with an energetic owner who has a great sense of humor and can appreciate her play...read more about KIT BELLEW
YUKON
has been making
huge
strides in his socialization journey. This boy has transformed from a shy, laid‑back loner into a playful, outgoing goofball—with just enough dignity in his posture to make him look almost regal.
YUKON
has officially shed his “Mr. Shy Guy” persona. Not only has he found his confidence… he’s also found his voice. And trust us—it’s a big one! His joyful barks echo his newfound boldness, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far he’s come.
Watching
YUKON
blossom has been an absolute joy, and we’re so excited to see him continue stepping into the wonderful dog he was always meant to be.
We recommend that Yukon be adopted with his buddy Kit.
Yukon and Kit are two very different personalities who fit together perfectly. Their bond has grown stronger with every passing day, and it’s clear they bring out the best in each other.

DUKE is pure joy wrapped in a big, happy grin. This cheerful, go‑with‑the‑flow guy LOVES his walks and lights up the moment he knows it’s adventure time. He’s still learning not to chase squirrels and other speedy little critters, so he’ll do best with a confident handler who can help him stay focused when excitement strikes. Around other dogs, DUKE is curious and polite. He tends to choose female playmates, but honestly, he’s the kind of dog who just wants to get along with everyone. Toys are his love language, and cool weather turns him into an absolute delight — he does the cutest little hops at the start of every walk when the temperature drops. DUKE would make a fantastic hiking buddy. He naturally prefers to walk single file ahead of his person, taking in the world with enthusiasm while still checking in. He’s also a big fan of car rides and will happily join you for any outing. This boy is deeply people‑oriented. If left alone outside,...read more about DUKE
Meet Odyssey — The Big, Goofy Malamute With an Even Bigger Heart
If you love a dog with personality, presence, and a whole lot of charm, Odyssey is ready to win you over. This big, smiley Malamute is the definition of a gentle giant—affectionate, goofy, and absolutely devoted to the people he loves.
Odyssey is known for his escape‑artist theatrics and his playful “catch me if you can” routine, but his oversized ears always give him away. He may try to act sneaky, but he’s far too endearing to pull it off. Because he’s clever and curious, he’ll need a secure 6‑foot fenced yard to keep his adventures safe and contained.
What Odyssey loves most is attention. Leaning into you for affection, rolling over for belly rubs, and staring at you with the most loving (and sometimes hilariously awkward) gaze—these are his specialties. Despite his size, he’s a total sweetheart who just wants to be close to his people.
Watch him run...read more about ODYSSEY
